1) What is microfilm? Microfilm is usually on 16 mm or 35 mm roll film. Rollfilm is stored on reels or in 3M or Kodak hard plastic cassettes.

2) Why is microfilm used for? Microfilm is used for preservation, archiving, to reduce storage space, research, and prints from microfilm are admissable in court.

3) What is a microfilm scanning digitial conversion? Digitizing microfilm entails using a microfilm scanner to convert the 16mm or 35mm frames to a digital image, such as TIFF, PDF, or JPEG.

4) What are microfiche? A microfiche is a film "card" with small image frames.Microfiche are generally stored in envelopes which are put in drawers, boxes, or books, and stored as file cards. The different types of fiche are COM, jackets, step-and-repeat, ultrafiche, and rewritable fiche, which can be digitally converted with a microfiche scanner.

5) What are aperture cards? Aperture cards are Hollerith punched PC cards with a 35mm microfilm frame mounted in the hole inside of a clear plastic sleeve; they are used for engineering drawings.

6) What microfilm services does Microfilm Depot offer? We pretty much handle anything that has to do with microfilm: processing, microfilm and microfiche duplication, document imaging, microfilm scanning,aperture cards, and image indexing.

7) Does Microfilm Depot convert documents to image? Yes, we have large format scanners and can digitize documents from paper and photo sizes from 3”x 5” (small format) to 42”x 180” (large format).

9) How do I send MDepot a paper document conversion? Packing documents and shipping via mail carrier such as Fed Ex or UPS is an ideal way of transporting out of state document scanning projects.

10) Can I just buy Kodak microfilm? Yes.

12) Does Microfilm Depot sell scanners and microfilm equipment? Yes.

13) Why are there so many microfilm storefronts on the Internet? Nowadays anyone can set up a site and pretend to sell services. What happens with storefronts is that your price gets marked up with so many middle men.

14) Do you outsource film or paper overseas? No.

15) Is it better to e-mail MDepot or call? Either way is fine.

16) Is MDepot, Microfilm Depot, and Advanced Imaging Solutions the same company? Yes.
